So last Friday was our Mission Tour where Elder Pearson of the Seventy and his wife came and spoke. SUPER GOOD. No. WONDERFUL. I actually heard him in the MTC and I loved his insight there and have referred back to those notes, and this time he got to speak for a lot longer and the Spirit was very present and thus I was able to learn MUCH more than otherwise. I love that--how He can "open the eyes of our understanding" and help us really understand if we'll only make the decision to be meek and open and humble and faithful... :)
Last week we were able to teach 2 new investigators, D and L. The lesson was very good and they were both touched--that was very evident. D is about our age or a little older with 2 little girls (one whom she lives with) and L is her grandma who is living with her temporarily until she moves back to Kansas. L's daughter, D's mom, is a New World Revival-ist that isn't our biggest fan. I'm pretty sure she tries to tear down every wall we build with them. She's been to Israel a bunch of times for movies her church does; she says she was healed over there from chronic pancreatitis, and she's a very strong-willed outspoken person. So we'll see how everything pans out.
On Saturday Sis D and I gave a tour to 3 non-member men, all married and in their 30's, part of the same congregation, very religious, coming in to ... I'm not totally sure. Just check it out I guess.
THAT was an interesting tour. There's so much to tell about it that I almost don't even want to start. 2 of them were at least a little open at first and then started asking more questions--phrased in a way that wasn't just trying to get an answer out of us but actually interested as to what we believed on the subjects. Then they started asking more questions and I pulled out the Book of Mormon and read them some passages in answer to different things, etc. and it was good and Sis D and I could tell they were feeling something. Then at last, the one guy that wouldn't make eye contact with us or whose body language indicated anything but interest spoke up at the end and goes off about how he can recognize counterfeit money and he can recognize scripture.... and the things I read out of the Book of Mormon were NOT SCRIPTURE and everything's a hoax ..... right then, Spirit GONE. This awful feeling crept over us, and it was like a light switch that he switched in the other two and the one who had been most open at the beginning went on this spree of quoting Bible scriptures (and their references) that he thought proved us wrong, eventually ending by saying that either we're right or they're right and if they're right, we're going to the lake of fire and brimstone and will be the ones who say, "Lord, Lord! We've baptized in your name, etc etc." and whom Jesus says (in Revelations), "Depart from me, ye workers of iniquity." and how it says in the Bible that man has never seen the face of God so Joseph Smith's a fraud and all this.... It was just so interesting how the Spirit was totally there for most of it and then once that switch was flipped.... BAM. They KNEW they felt something. They KNEW the things we were telling them made sense (they were taught them before they came to earth, after all, and it was sounding familiar....) and I think..... well, I think a LOT of things about that experience. It was funny how we could have combated their arguments with a myriad of truths straight from their own Bible, but at that point it would have been fruitless. J encouraged me to leave the Book of Mormon aside for a while and just read the Bible so that I could see the difference and climb out of my ignorance or something like this and I just thought, "I can't. I just can't. I could never 'leave the Book of Mormon aside for a while' because it's TRUE!!!!!!" so I just said, "Okay! And in return, I encourage you to read it. All the way through. and then take Moroni's challenge...." They departed a bit heated. I think it bugged them that we kept smiling throughout their rampage and said a friendly goodbye still.... I KNOW they walked out of our doors entirely more affected than they expected. I guarantee you that they all have thought about the things we discussed a lot since then and I hope that they'll eventually soften their hearts enough to see the truth. "Tis hard to kick against the pricks...." ;) I'll be honest, though, it took a little toll on me. I had to go downstairs and play the piano to get the Spirit back. It was crazy for me to see people feel the Holy Ghost like that and then shove back against it so hard.... while instilling fear in me that I'd go to that lake of fire and brimstone.... And God NEVER works by fear..... so yeah. The next morning I read "Safety For the Soul" by Elder Holland and it is the PERFECT talk for J..... Y'all should watch it after you read this email. ;) It's one of my favorites. Watching it is better than reading it. btw
Well, other than that we finally heard from H again!! We were afraid he was in trouble up in Minnesota (his whole family's in a mess) but he's back now and we taught him again yesterday. So good. And we're seeing S today and SP tomorrow! Last week was kind of a drought with all of them.... But we found S and C and possibly M.... People are so interesting...so different.... yet so the same.....
This week has also been a challenging one emotionally and mentally and Spiritually. For many reasons. At this time in my mission more than any other as of yet I feel my rough corners and edges being chipped and sawed off to become smooth and I learn MUCH more about being truly Christlike and patient when it is NOT easy on a very regular and consistent basis.
Well, I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures. Sorry there weren't that many. I'm trying to take more. I have no idea where my batteries and charger went and it's driving me crazy. I really hope it's not in JC..... Dang. Probably is........
I hope you're all having a wonderful week!!

Marzo 15
Hola familia,
Yup, this week I had P day on Tuesday. So it'll be a couple weeks before I hear from any of you because everyone waits til Tuesday night or Wednesday morning to email me lol. You snooze I lose I guess haha.
So anyway, how's everyone's week been?
Well, I got to go to the K's baptism on Saturday!! It was awesome!! It was so neat to see them again. Bro W picked us up from KC with Sis H (someone I was close to in JC) cuz Sis. W is about to pop she's so pregnant. And it was good to see some of the JC crowd and Sis. N again... and then C drove us back afterward and we got to know each other a lot more then. :) I'll send pictures of the baptism with the Ks... I gave a talk on the Holy Ghost and played the piano and last-minute-ly accompanied Sis N singing the same song that I sang at my baptism. :) The Ks are solid. I love that. What a unique privilege I had to help bring a solid family into the gospel. That's every missionary's dream.
So about the Book of Mormon signed with some of the YW's testimonies. There are actually 2 teen girls here that could benefit from it. SP has 2 daughters, 10 and 13, and the 13 yr old seems precocious. And then B, 17, in JC, the daughter of the W family... So that's neat....
But so last week when we met with SP, it went very well. :) We taught her the first lesson, she nodded all the way through it, was already on 1 Nep. 10 and before Sis. D could even finish the sentence to commit her for baptism, she's like, "Oh yeah! Of course!" So we're excited about her. She has a tough work schedule, however. She's starting up a new branch of her company in Nevada so she has to jump around quite a bit and thus we don't get to teach her as often as we'd like. But so that makes 3 people currently, along with S and H. :)
Satan is DEFINITELY doing his best to thwart things, though. He never goes down without a fight. Random stupid things keep keeping H from attending church. And for once it's NOT the investigator's lack of motivation. He's wanted to come for 4 weeks. Satan is very creative in his tactics. This week he decided to put H's daughter in law in the hospital in Minnesota. His son wasn't able to be with her and so he left Saturday night for Minnesota to be with her and take care of things. Which means we have to move his baptism back to the 27th instead of his birthday, the 20th. :( :( :(
We gave H a church tour last Thursday and in it I asked him why he wanted to be baptized and why he thought baptism into this church was necessary instead of another church, etc. He replied, "iPorque es verdadero!" and then explained the peace he feels when he reads and when we teach him. Everything clicks. And when he prayed as we instructed him to, he felt it was true. The doctrine of prophets made sense. He realizes that baptism means a new life and he's excited to start it, to have his sins washed away. He has such amazing faith. So then after the church tour we were waiting with him for his ride home and we gave him the Word of Wisdom pamphlet. He goes, "Oh! Bueno. No fumo, no tomo..." (aka I don't smoke or drink) we said, "Si! Es bueno. Pero hay dos cosas mas..." and we told him about no tea or coffee. He kind of paused and told us how he drinks coffee a few times a week.... "Pero... no mas! Starting tomorrow, I no more drink coffee." He just continues to amaze Sis D and I with his faith. The things he expressed that day humbled us. He trusts us so much. It's humbling to be a servant of the Lord and have someone so meek have so much faith in what you teach them to be willing to change his/her life... It's a privilege.
However, there are a lot of times on the mission when you feel like a complete failure. You're doing the best you can, but things still don't work out. Or, despite your best intentions, you mess up or weren't aware of something... But ya live and learn.
Alrighty then...
Th-th-th-th-th-that's all folks!
Until next week, have a wonderfully sunny week! In all aspects!

Marzo 9 =0)
This week was so good.
My companion and I had a few really neat conversations about the gospel and other different things, we taught some good lessons, have 2 people committed for baptism!!!!!!!!!! and have finally gotten in touch with a couple people that we've been searching for for a while.
First of all, the K's baptism got moved to the 12th so I'll be heading to that on Saturday. But I'm very excited!
The 2 people we have set for baptism here are H and S.
We can't believe some of these people we meet and teach. They are so prepared by the Lord to receive His gospel. It's amazing how, if His children just listen and let Him go to work, He does!!
S is a young black woman who has been through some crazy stuff. But she's basically more in tune with the Spirit than I am... and she doesn't even have it yet! She met Sis. D on a bus in Kaw River (Kansas City, KS) and saw a picture of a B of M on her pass along card and said, "Oh! I've been wanting one of those!" and they gave her one, taught her once in a McDonald's, and then she fell off the face of the earth. (so many do....) Then she finally reappeared this week and she's in much better circumstances and she's in Alma 51 or something, started from the beginning! I'm excited to get to teach her more and know her better.
Then H we've been teaching for a couple weeks and we committed him to be baptized on March 20. And he said it was the perfect day because it's his birthday! I was like, "Yaya! Fui bautizada en mi cumpleanos tambien! ....pero tenia 8 anos.... hahaha." He's so ready. He was asking us what else he needed to do to prepare more to be baptized. He doesn't drink or smoke or live-in-sin and he loves the Libro de Mormon. He doesn't understand all of it, he admits, but it's good and he reads the parts over and over that he doesn't understand.
I'm getting more used to the VC now. I still want more time in our area, but alas, it's ok. And the Lord definitely blesses us in the time we do have.
Last week we were able to help D organize her things after we helped her move on Tuesday. It was good and we got to talk to her about the gospel. We need to see her again soon, though...
She was supposed to come to stake conference on Sunday and didn't. Stake Conf was amazing, by the way. Pres. Eyring and Elder Cook and Bishop Burton and Sister Cook spoke. VERY good talks. Of course. So this was our super-duper-frustrating moment for the week...
We set H up with a ride to stake conf. with the P family. Sunday morning at 7 they call us and tell us they can't bring him. So we call half the ward to find him another ride and finally Bro. L said he could pick him up. He went and rang and knocked but no one answered, and he described the house and we knew he had the right one.... and we called H 10 times and his phone was screwing up for some reason.... (only time it's ever done that...) and we were so sad when he wasn't there. Especially since he was supposed to come to the VC afterward. Then later in the day he called us and we were like, "Le extranamos, a la conferencia de la estaca...." and he told us how he had gotten up at 7 and showered and gotten all ready and went out at 8:30 and looked for a car..... no car.... and then again at 9.... no car.... and he has no idea why his phone wouldn't ring for us or why he didn't hear any doorbell. "Yo estaba al hogar! Si! Si! Estaba esperando por el ride!" He was totally ready and waiting.... BAHH. I hate Satan. But this Sunday that will not happen. No way.
USU won the WAC!!!!!!!! (my comp's dad updates her on all the sports. And apparently BYU has been getting a lot of publicity about that honor-code-breaking-player... but that it has actually been a good thing.)
And thank the YW and ward for the signed Book of Mormon. I'll do my best to place it in the hands of another teenage girl who will be most effected.
I thank you muchly for your prayers. They are seriously real. God hears them and blesses us as missionaries with the things you pray for.
Thank you for your emails and letters. I love hearing about life at home.
One last thing I should've said before, I love taking tours at the VC. Especially nonmember tours. :) I took a couple of those this week and they both went very well. It's neat how the special feeling and spirit within the VC works on people. They feel the difference. They walk out with Books of Mormon and with the commitment to go to church, different things like that whereas they wouldn't have otherwise.
And yesterday I went on exchanges into an English area, but got to teach in Spanish! It was good, too, that I came that night because the husband wouldn't have understood much at all if it was all in English as it would've been if I weren't there. Yay. God is great.
I hope you all are doing marvelously, growing spiritually, physically (did you win the competition, DAD?????), mentally, emotionally and socially. I know I am!
Hasta despues...

Marzo 2
Hola mi familia,
Como estan?
Esta semana ha sido interesante. Siempre, no?
So this week was good. An adjustment.
I like being out and about all day a lot better and we have extremely limited miles which gets in the way of a lot of things. :(
But this week we taught a man named Humberto twice. Spanish! He is so prepared. I don't know why he's not baptized already. We have another appt. with him tomorrow where we'll commit him for baptism. :) :)
We also taught a woman named Alma yesterday. Also Spanish. I have high hopes!
And we have an appt with Maria tomorrow (it'll be the first formal teaching appt so cross your fingers...)
And we're still trying to get in constant contact with Sharon, a woman who walked into the church the week before I came requesting a Book of Mormon because she'd read one of Glen Beck's books that mentioned it.... She's golden, but SUPER hard to get a hold of because her job is nuts and takes her out of the state all the time. Please pray for her also.
Last week we also taught Orlando and made it very visual. :) I made a path out of random things leading to his wife and children and Sis. D. and I were "the gate" aka baptism (2 Nephi 31). The hard thing with them is they're illegal from Honduras and not married, even though they've lived together for 15 yrs and have like 4 kids. And to get them married is like pulling teeth because Missouri and Kansas require proof of legal residence now.
So our ward is so unique. Talk about the antithesis of a Utah ward hahahahahahahaha.
There are grand total of like.......... 19 white people in the ward....... including the missionaries........ like 60% are Spanish, 25% are Black, 7% are like Cambodian or Marshalese ...... Very diverse. We serve with elders. It's nice to have them for backup and help, etc. Elder N. (of Sandy) and Elder G. (of California). It's also neat being around so many other missionaries. Out in JC, district meeting is by far the most missionary contact you have haha, but here you see the sisters every day and elders throughout the week. And there have been many miracles this week in so many wards, it has been wonderful seeing them and hearing about them. One of our miracles was how we were driving down the street to contact an LA (less active) and there was a lady scraping ice away. We stopped to help her and afterward found out she is a member. Man.... the Lord KNOWS HIS SHEEP AND THEY ARE NUMBERED. We'll be back to visit (and hopefully reactivate her) and I took note of a few people on the street that maybe we can contact when we got back... Also, Humberto is a miracle. He's so great. He has family who are members in Utah I believe and within 2 days of our 1st lesson was on 1 Nef. 10. :D
Well, this email was definitely scattered. And granted I'm still trying to gain my bearings here. You have to work and weave around sOOOOOOO many different time obstacles here. Drives me slightly crazy. But it's good to learn how to do. And the Lord is very aware of His work. So it'll be okay. And I have a good companera. :) I make her laugh all the time and we're pretty similar in work ethic.
Well'm, I hope all of y'all's weeks went well.
Have a wonderful week.
Thank you for your love and support and prayers.
Please pray for Humberto, Maria, Sharon, Dieune, Anjulette, Maureen.
And look for missionary oppotunities WHEREVER YOU ARE. :D
